Franchising for Growth

11th October 2013 By admin

As a natural consequence of my traditional advising, as well as extensive experience in franchising, I am regularly approached to look at the feasibility of taking an existing business to franchise. In addition, I work with experienced franchisors, helping them to expand nationally and internationally. I have an extensive business network and have assisted businesses in many different trade areas and disciplines – service, manufacturing, retail – all have common denominators.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that a step-by-step approach is vital. I’ve devised a simple and but effective method of taking a business to franchise. Your franchise is unique; however, the foundations for success are rooted in a common process. Whether you have an existing system or are just starting out, there are certain areas that need to be covered.

Firstly, we need to define the opportunity. I help you to produce an opportunity summary, aimed at establishing interest in your franchise offering. While we’re doing this, we’ll have you writing the operations and systems manual for the business. If it’s not in your skill set, I can help write one for you. I also handle the drafting of the legal agreements – this will save you thousands in solicitor’s fees. Once the package is complete, we set about recruiting your first intake of franchisees. I do not believe in the use of external franchise recruitment companies. Your candidates will also need training. I’ll help you write the franchisee training system to enable them to make the opportunity a success. But it’s not over then. The most vital aspect of franchising is ongoing training and support – not only for the candidates but also for you as the franchisor.

I have all of the documentation, manuals and processes already templated. This allows you to focus on tailoring your business model to franchise without reinventing the wheel.

Free booklet for every reader

This 50-page booklet summarises everything you need to know about business growth. Send for your free copy (paper or electronic) to dave@hilltopconsultancy.co.uk

A 320-page personal record of setting up, growing and selling a marketing agency: part memoir, part business handbook, part comic novel.  Set in Oxford in the 1980’s and 90’s it documents the fun and games, and pain and heartache we telescoped into 12 short years. The title is taken from the scurrilous in-house ‘newsletter’ our creative department compiled a couple of times a year, to debunk any of our employees who… oh, just anyone who worked for us (including me).

Interested? The first chapter is free at www.theunprincipled.com  If you want to acquire a copy, it is available through Amazon, on Kindle, or through your local bookshop (they will have to order it for you) – or just ask me for a copy direct via dave@hilltopconsultancy.co.uk

Here is a film of an interview with me about the book, shot at Langan’s restaurant in London.
